Lion and Sun Shir O Khoshid Persian Empire Iran’s national flag Persian art iran art original canvas painting by Fariba Farsad Iran Azad.
The Lion and Sun (Persian: شیر و خورشید, romanized: Šir-o xoršid, pronounced [ˌʃiːɾo xoɾˈʃiːd]; Classical Persian: [ˌʃeːɾu xʷuɾˈʃeːd]) is one of the main emblems of Iran (Persia), and formerly was an element in Iran’s national flag until the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The motif, which illustrates ancient and modern Iranian traditions, became a popular symbol in Iran in the 12th century.[1] The lion and sun symbol is based largely on astronomical and astrological configurations: the ancient sign of the sun in the house of Leo,[1][2] which itself is traced back to Babylonian astrology and Near Eastern traditions.[2][3]
Hello, my name is Fariba Farsad. I was born in Iran where I grew up with my paternal grandparents. My grandfather, Abutorab Farsad, was the reason for my passion for painting and interest in arts. He was a lover of beauty and showed me how to look into the detail of the world going on around me. more
